Grate Sizing Guide

Learn how to measure your BBQ to get the perfect fitting grill grate

Why Accurate Measurements Matter

Getting the right dimensions for your custom grill grate is crucial for optimal cooking performance. A properly fitted grate ensures even heat distribution, prevents food from falling through gaps, and maximizes your grilling space.

Important: Always measure twice, order once! Take multiple measurements to ensure accuracy.

1 Measure the Width

  • Measure from left wall to right wall
  • Measure at the level where the grate will sit
  • Account for any protruding elements
  • Round down to nearest 5mm for proper fit

2 Measure the Depth

  • Measure from front to back of cooking area
  • Exclude handles and external parts
  • Consider clearance for easy removal
  • Round down to nearest 5mm for proper fit

Common BBQ Types & Considerations

Rectangular Grills

Measure width and depth at the grate level precisely

Tip: Check for side handles or temperature gauges
Offset Smokers

Main chamber may have irregular shapes - measure carefully

Tip: Consider multiple smaller grates if very large

Tools You'll Need

  • Measuring Tape - Most accurate for larger measurements
  • Ruler - Good for smaller, precise measurements
  • Paper & Pen - Record your measurements immediately
  • Flashlight - See clearly in dark grill interiors
  • Camera - Photo reference for unusual shapes
  • Helper - Someone to hold the tape measure
